Interactive displays can support whole-class modeling, collaborative problem solving, annotation, multimedia, formative assessment, and access to digital resources. They can also become large screens used for announcements and teacher presentations. The equipment does not determine which outcome occurs. Instructional design, placement, compatibility, training, support, and student use do.
Define the classroom use cases
Before comparing brands, identify what teachers and students will regularly do. Will students manipulate models, annotate texts, compare solutions, respond to questions, share device screens, revisit saved work, or collaborate in small groups? How will the display support students with visual, hearing, motor, language, or attention needs? A short list of high-value use cases is more useful than a long list of product features.
Interactivity should include students
A display is not meaningfully interactive merely because the teacher can touch it. Strong use places student thinking in public view: explaining a process, organizing evidence, revising a response, comparing strategies, receiving immediate feedback, or building something together. The technology should increase intellectual participation rather than make teacher presentation more polished.
Compatibility can determine value
Confirm how the display works with teacher laptops, student devices, wireless networks, Microsoft or Google environments, learning platforms, document cameras, audio, accessibility tools, and existing lesson resources. Examine sign-in, file transfer, screen sharing, updates, licensing, and data collection. A powerful display that interrupts normal workflows will be used less than a simpler system that works reliably.
Professional development is part of the purchase
Initial training should help teachers complete common tasks and apply them to real lessons. Continuing coaching should move from operation to instructional design. Vendors may include certification or product training, but schools should determine whether that training addresses pedagogy or primarily demonstrates features. Teacher leaders need time to build examples and support colleagues after the installer leaves.
Consider the whole room
Sight lines, glare, mounting height, sound, room size, furniture, wireless coverage, electrical capacity, and accessibility affect use. So do warranty terms, expected life, replacement parts, response time, and the ability to continue teaching when the display fails. A classroom technology decision is also a facilities and support decision.
Measure instructional return
Evaluate use through observation, teacher and student feedback, lesson artifacts, formative-assessment practice, accessibility, and evidence of participation—not login counts alone. If most displays function as projectors after a year, the school may have purchased beyond its instructional readiness. The answer may be better coaching, different placement, or a less expensive tool in some rooms.

Put the insight to work.
- Identify three recurring student-centered uses before requesting proposals.
- Test compatibility, privacy, accessibility, room conditions, and support—not specifications alone.
- Include instructional coaching and follow-up in the implementation budget.
- Review actual classroom use six and twelve months after installation.
