Net tuition belongs in the decision
An award changes both family affordability and the school's expected revenue. Leaders should examine capacity, the likelihood of enrollment or retention, the cost of serving the student, and the effect on the full aid portfolio—not merely the stated tuition discount.
Sensitive decisions require accountable judgment
No formula understands every family, mission consideration, or unusual hardship. Models can organize evidence and expose tradeoffs, but consequential decisions should retain authorized human review, written reasons, confidentiality, and an auditable approval process.
